The popular comic strip, FoxTrot, was first syndicated in 1988. The cartoonist sees a funny side in family life, and his unique style comes through in the daily life of the Fox family: parents Andrea (Andy) and Roger, and their children, Peter, Paige, and Jason. Postcard oblong, colour drawing one side (no 7072 in corner). This beautiful cat is very life-like. The written text on reverse side is dated 1913. The stamp is a one cent U.S. stamp. N/A pp. Postcard oblong, very good condition, sepia (brown-tinted) drawing, minor foxing & toning, tiny pin hole top edge, few marks rear of card, minor edgewear. A postcard published for the Winter Olympics in Germany from 6-16 February, 1936. The games were opened by Adolf Hitler. Skiing was introduced for the first time at these Olympics. 28. Anonymous (1955). POSTCARD: Dachshund Puppy Wearing a Red Cap. City Not Stated: Publisher Not Stated. N/A pp. Postcard oblong, very good condition, colour picture one side, crease top edge, no written text on rear side, minor edgewear. Postcard oblong, colour photo. This beautiful Dachshund is very life-like with large brown eyes. The dachshund came from Egypt, but however has become the national dog of Germany. (Broadly estimated date, 1950s.). 29. Aris, E. [Ernest] (1908). POSTCARD: You Might Drop In: Wishing You a Merry Christmas [Star Series]. Accrington & London: Havelock Lonsdale Art Publisher. N/A pp. Postcard oblong, very good condition, colour drawing, minimal foxing, minor edgewear. Picture of two men on ice skates, one standing behind a sign stating "Ice Not Safe". Ernest Aris (1882 - 1963) was a prolific English illustrator of children's books, particularly for Beatrix Potter. He also did commercial art for postcards etc. Our Book No: 16810. $15 AUD.

30. Army and Navy, Germany (1928). The Army and Navy Needle Book: Made in Germany. Germany: Publisher Not Stated. n/a pp. Ephemera small oblong, good condition, colour photo front & rear, corners creased front cover, five paper pockets (four with needles), small square of brown paper with cover (has 3 needles), needles are slightly rusted, minor edgewear. The front cover has a colour image of 'The Bremen' and the rear cover of 'The Europa' (passenger ships). The needlebooks apparently were never given to the Army or Navy, they were used at home. The pockets for the needles have a gold plate with a green lion image and the words: "Extra good large eye needles registered Peerless Sharps made in Germany". The numbers 1, 1/2, 5, 3/9, 6 are on the gold plates. 'Silver steel' is in green writing at the top of the card. They are in paper folded pockets in a oblong folded card. There are 21 needles but some do not have large eyes (may have been added). The Bremen was launched in Germany by Norddeutscher Lloyd Line (NDL) in the late 1920s, and gutted by fire in 1941. The Europa was captured by the Allies in 1945 and used as a troopship, then it went to France as an ocean liner named Liberte. It was scraped in 1963. (No date, but about 1928 or later.). Large fold-out map of New South Wales. Includes index of New South Wales towns showing mileages from Sydney by shortest practical route. The rubber stamp states Atlantic Service Station Noel Jones (prop) Conway St, Lismore. The front of the map depicts two kookaburras sitting on the Atlantic sign, and various birds and animals to advertise Atlantic Oil. The map covers Sydney Metropolitan Area, Gosford to Taree, Gosford to Moruya, Newcastle City, Canberra City, Brisbane to Melbourne. (No date, but 1958, from printer's mark 5819.). This monograph groups in chronological order some of the maps and charts which have been drawn of the coastal area between Newcastle and the Tweed River. The author discusses the 'anatomy' of the drawings and comments on the content of each sheet. (No 1 in this series. Plus 9 additional illustrations & notes numbered 3 to 9 at rear.). Brandard, Birmingham. The second booklet Scripture Histories retells eight stories from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. This booklet was printed by F. Houlston and Son, Wellington. The woodcuts in this booklet are appropriate to the texts. The third chapbook was published by John Golby Rusher, Banbury, who opened a printing office in 1808. Jack and Jill, and Old Dame Gill begins with a traditional English rhyme, dating perhaps from the early 17th century. The second verse is more recent, and the further 13 stanzas, found in many early 19th-century chapbooks, were added by an anonymous hand. The woodcuts were designed by George Cruikshank and then engraved by A. R. Branston. Jack and Jill is folded uncut, as originally printed. The Macpherson family lived in Sydney from 1833. The family photographed their leisured lives, the bush around them, strangers in the street, and the beach. They filmed the world around them before the war changed things forever. In 2014, when the family donated their collection of 688 glass-plate negatives to the library little was known about its contents. Careful cleaning and digitising, meant that the images could be looked at closely in new ways. The expertise of the online community, the detective work of studying places and faces, analysing evidence, putting together fragments of information to reveal identities, locations, times and events meant that the story could start to fall into place. Two cards have the same menu and are dated 13th March, 1960. One of these cards has Middle Temple Lane which leads to Middle Temple Hall, built in 1572. Here "Twelfth Night" was first performed in 1602 under Shakespeare's personal direction. The other card has St. Bartholomew's Gateway which marks the entrance to the Church of St. Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield. This, the oldest parish in London, was founded by Rahere in 1123. The Peacock at Home, a sequel, written by an anonymous lady, later identified as Catherine Ann (Turner) Dorset, was published in September 1807, by the Harris firm. This booklet was illustrated with copperplates engraved after William Mulready. The card envelopes that wrap around each individual booklet add a special touch. A classic children's picture book which is one of the earliest examples held by The Osborne Collection, and originally published in 1796. The pictures were engraved from free-hand paper cuttings made without preliminary sketches by Elizabeth (Boughton) Upton (Lady Templetown). The edition reproduced here bears mounted engravings on tinted paper. Peltro William Tompkins published the original editions. He was an artist whose print selling business is advertised on the label inside the front cover. The beautiful drawings would appeal to most ages.
